Star Wars the Complete Saga: First Impressions

My pre-order for Star Wars the Complete Saga on Blu-ray came in the mail on launch day so I must start by saying good job Best Buy. I got a good price on it and got it the same day as everyone who went to the stores. Lets take a look at what’s inside.

Having seen the covers online for months now, I very much prefer the the covers on the individual trilogies versus the cover of the complete saga. Of course the cover of The Complete Saga makes perfect sense (as do the others), the colours and details of the others are much nicer in my opinion. That said the art work is still very nice, and I especially enjoy the back of the box. However, once I took the time to open it up I was quite enthralled with each page.

Each page spoke well to the movie it contained and showed equally enjoyable artwork. Colors were far from dull and and on many of the pages gave me a sense of the emotion they were meant to portray. In fact I would very much enjoy to have some of these prints for my office. My favourite artwork in order would be The Phantom Menace, Bonus Disc 3 and The Empire Strikes back, with the remainder being equally ranked.

The pages themselves were thick and sturdy in their construction, with nice sharp edges. This gave me caution in handling them as they would quickly show wear if handled wrong, but at the same time I didn’t feel I couldn’t confidently turn pages or grasp them.

As for the discs themselves, the design is simple and clean. Something I often prefer and equally enjoy here. Removing the discs from the packaging though requires some careful force as they can catch on edges and begin to dog ear them. You can bet for me these will rarely leave their case, and I will resort to watching either the Adywan releases or my digital copies.

Overall I enjoy the design and construction, and think it fits well with the franchise. What are your thoughts on the designs?
